Will Canada exceed 100,000 Express Entry invitations in 2020?

Irrespective of deadly Covid-19, Canada is all set to gear up its Express Entry records. The country plans to issue 1, 00,000 or more Express Entry invitations in 2020.

This is surely going to be astonishing in the view of the negative impact that COVID-19 is has imposed in Canada as well as all across the globe.

Before the federal govt. of Canada imposed travel ban in March 2020, Immigration minister Marco Mendicino declared that the country would target at least 341,000 new permanent resident admissions in 2020.

Since Express Entry is the major way through which IRCC manages economic class immigration applications, the economic class stands at nearly 60 per cent of all new immigrants welcomed by Canada every year.

In April 2020, due to the negative impact of Covid-19, the Immigration levels in Canada plunged down dramatically and it still seems to fall short. Hence, the federal govt. of Canada felt the requirement for new Express Entry admissions. However, people who received their COPR after March’18th are currently restricted from travelling to Canada due to the restrictions. Still, the ongoing Express Entry draws that happened on a bi-weekly basis since the start of the pandemic have been a pleasant surprise. Whereas contrary to the popular belief at the initial stage of the pandemic that Express Entry draws may be temporarily paused or they would see lesser invitations issued, the exact opposite has happened.

In fact, the record-breaking Express Entry draws with Canada are positively indicating that it still plans to welcome huge levels of immigration after the pandemic is over as on October 14th, Canada held its largest Express Entry draw ever. According to the draw, Canada issued ITAs for Permanent Residents to 4,500 Express Entry candidates. Those applicants will now be able to apply for permanent residence and, if they are abroad right now, then they will eventually be able to establish a life in Canada when the travel restrictions will be relaxed for COPR holders. Canada has issued 82,850 Express Entry invitations this year. Recently, draw sizes have seen between 3,900 and 4,200 invitations issued per draw. If IRCC invites 3,900 candidates in each of the five Express Entry draws in 2020, then it will issue a total of 102,350 invitations by the end of this year.

Even if draw sizes are smaller, and IRCC issues an average of 3,500 ITAs per draw, Canada will still exceed 100,000 ITAs by the end of 2020.

So, yet again, Canada proves that it is highly committed to welcoming more immigrants to support its economy, despite the disturbances and ruckus caused by COVID-19.

It also indicates that IRCC believes it will be able to process permanent residence applications within a reasonable amount of time.

Why the Express Entry is the best way to Canada

Canadian immigration is an extensive and complex process altogether especially if you are looking forward to immigrate to Canada without having an idea of where to start. People generally do not have much time to go through all the immigration visas and programs to figure out which one is best for them. At Dream Destination Canada, we make the job easier and more convenient for you. Generally, people are aware of the most popular immigration program known as the Express Entry system, which is by far, the fastest ways to immigrate to Canada. Here’s how-

Express Entry Program has an average visa application process time of 6 months and you can apply online making it easily accessible for those who want to apply for permanent residence from anywhere in the world. There are three Federal Immigration Programs to choose from based on your age, language ability, education, skills and work experience:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trade Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

One of the best features of the Express Entry system is that you only have to create an online profile once for the entire year and you’ll automatically be entered into the Express Entry draw which takes place every two weeks. Also, your profile stays active in the express entry pool for 1 year.

Express Entry program is also considered to be the most popular program, because It was the first immigration program to use skills and points to assess the eligibility of individuals willing to immigrate to Canada.

Our RCIC, Mr. Paul Abraham, has been a player in the particular aspect. Thus, he is the best person to guide you through the entire process. Dream Destination Canada team takes care of your immigration application from the scratch till the end. Please visit our website for the better guidance.

Canada sees record-low fertility rates same year as record-breaking Immigration levels.

Canada has observed a record-low fertility rate the previous year. According to new Statistics Canada data, the total fertility rate in 2019 was 1.47 births per woman over the period of her conceptive life. Generally, Populations required at a birth rate of at least 2.1 births per woman, but Canada has not reached this benchmark since 1971. Therefore, the number of babies being born is not enough for the present population to replace itself.

Excluding Yukon, there were about 372,038 births in Canada last year. The ratio of baby boys as compared to the girls was a bit higher, i.e., about 51.3 per cent, which remains unchanged in the past years.

Hence, keeping the low fertility rate in consideration, Canada has announced significant Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 that will see it now target over 400,000 new immigrant admissions every year.

Immigration is solely responsible for 78% to 79% of population growth in 2019

Owing to the ageing population and low birth rate, Canada relies heavily on immigration for population growth. Canada’s data agency, Statistics Canada or StatCan mentioned in a release, “International migration is the main driver of population growth in Canada, accounting for 81.9% of growth in 2019-2020. As a result, the travel ban on international borders and the subsequent decline in International immigration levels had the biggest impact on population growth in 2019-2020.”

Immigration alone has contributed for 81.9 percent of Canada’s population growth for the year that ended June 30 with the country admitting 284,387 immigrants, down from more than 300,000 for each of the past two years.

Without immigration, Canada cannot proceed to grow its population. According to the Conference Board of Canada, “immigrants will be responsible for 100 per cent of the national population growth by 2034.” In the initial months of 2020, immigration itself accounted for 82% of Canada’s population growth.

Alberta – Changes to ANIP: New Streams

In order to promote job growth and create new business in high-demand industries, the Alberta government has created two new immigration pathways in an attempt to increase business investment, create some new higher wage jobs, help attract diversity and to attract the international graduate community into creating new businesses in Alberta.

International graduates from Alberta qualify to apply to the International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Streamin order to launch start-ups and ventures in Alberta.

In addition to international graduates of Alberta, starting in January 2021 the Foreign Graduate Startup Visa stream will also open allowing international graduates from top United States educational entities.

Immigration Makes Canada a Better Country

Canada has a calculative and well-planned approach to immigration with various immigration programs that fulfil numerous requirements. The efficient immigration process has rendered the OECD appreciate the federal government’s programs to recruit skilled foreign workers and enabling their integration in the Canadian society. Canada is well-known for being an immigrant friendly nation.

Currently, immigrants constitute for one in five people in Canada. Since 1990, over six million new immigrants have moved to Canada. According to the authorities, “Immigrants and their descendants have made immeasurable contributions to Canada, and our future success depends on continuing to ensure they are welcomed and well-integrated.” This remark apparently portrays key analysis and data on immigrants’ contributions to the Canadian economy and labour market.

According a report, with an ageing population and low fertility rates, immigration plays a crucial role in ensuring that Canada’s population and labour force stay balanced. Provided that the new immigrants are, on an average, younger than the existing Canadian population, immigration can help alleviate some of the challenges of an ageing demographic.

Moreover, immigration to Canada is a tool that can help to supress the decline of Canada’s worker-to-retiree ratio. Plus, it’s expected that immigrants help Canada to fill its labour gaps.

In addition to it, when immigrants come to Canada, they eventually become a part of the consumer market and pay taxes. This means that they contribute to the economy and increase the productive capacity of the particular province or territory. 2018 Annual Report Data on Immigration reveals that Canada’s economy has benefitted from concrete gains in the size of the labour pool, mainly due to immigration.

The report also shows that, over the past twenty years, the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, productivity, and the labour force have all raised by around 1.25% per year.

In Canada, immigrants of all categories seem to have positive consequences across a range of economic indicators, including refugees. The economic performance of all immigrants increases with time span they spend in Canada.

The Conference of Board Canada, a Canadian not-for-profit applied research organization, also published many reports on the immigration impacts on the economy of Canada.

Alberta – Changes to TFW Program

In order to make more jobs available to unemployed Albertans, Alberta is limiting the number of and type of jobs available through the Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) program by adding occupational categories to their “Refusal to Process” list.

Affected are 475 occupations in sectors such as:

  • Accommodation
  • Food Services
  • Retail Trade
  • Construction
  • Transportation
  • Technical Services
  • Scientific
  • “Professional”

Note that with the additions mentioned above, there will be a small number of specialized occupations in Care giving, Technology and some “Signature” that will remain unaffected that currently rely heavily on temporary foreign works in order to fill employment gaps.

Are Companies Hiring during COVID-19?

As we all know that it is a tough time for the whole world in terms of health and financial downfall wherein millions of people around the world are losing their jobs amid the current COVID-19 crisis. With the whole world at the verge of the worst recessional period, almost all of us are at risk of unemployment. Especially being a jobseeker, hunting for a job in the current scenario is a herculean task altogether.

However, there is good news for the people who are planning to move to Canada shortly. Despite the uncertainty surrounding finding work in the current situation, there are still part-time and full-time positions available across Canada. Businesses in the retail, technology, health-care industries etc. have seen the most significant spur in demand. Also, they are now launching on a mass hiring binge to cope up with this unwanted situation. As stated by the Hon’ble Carla Qualtrough, Minister of employment Workforce development and disability inclusion, “we recognize that COVID-19 particularly hard hits people and that is why we made changes this year to Canada summer jobs program. I encourage Canada’s young people to go to Job Bank and check out what’s available to them. Youth are powerful leaders of change, and during these difficult times we are proud to support them as they help out our communities and shape a better and more resilient Canada.”

Moreover, the federal as well as provincial govt. of Canada is working with employers across the country. The government is trying its best during this extremely unwelcomed situation to make sure that young Canadians stay connected to the jobs market with safe and secure summer employment opportunities.

While the whole world is sailing in the unprecedented waters in terms of employment, Canada, as always, is raising the bar by working with employers across the country. The Federal Govt. of Canada is leaving no stone unturned, during this financial unrest to make sure that the Canadians, as well as the new immigrants from across the world, stay connected to the jobs market with safe and secure employment opportunities along with giving their best to accelerate the economy of the country. So, for the people who were/are skeptical about the job opportunities to enhance their career. Canada is the place for them as the country is not only accepting the immigrants from all across the world but also leaving no coin unturned to provide the employments to its citizens as well as the immigrants.

Coronavirus and changes in the Immigration Process

Canada has always been an immigrant-friendly nation with lenient immigration policy. It invites more than 3, 00,000 people every year. The US News and World Report survey for the best countries in the world has ranked Canada as the most reliable country in the world for Quality of life. It is also the second-best in the world in terms of citizenship.

However, in the wake of COVID-19, IRCC has reframed certain laws and deadlines in the immigration process to fulfil the needs of the potential immigrants. In this regard, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marco E.L. Mendicino discussed with the Canadian Bar Association, in which he said, “Immigration will be the key to our success and our economic recovery”. Moreover, he mentioned, “We continue to rely on Immigration, it will be an economic driver, and this will be the North Star of our policy going forward.” Therefore, it is apparent that long-term statistics of Canada Immigration will stay intact as the country will continue to invite immigrants to accelerate its economic growth.

Following are the updates as per the IRCC, which will help the applicants to understand the changes in the immigration process-

Special Measures

  1. Applicants are not refused if they’re unable to complete the next step owing to the COVID-19 for Visitor Visa, Work Permit, study permit and PR applications.
  2. 90 days will be given to complete the process.
  3. Biometrics deadline has been extended to 90 days if you’re affected by service disruptions.
  4. Applicants are advised to apply online because of service disruptions due to COVID-19, as there are difficulties in receiving and processing applications.

Moreover, IRCC has recently reformed its post-graduation work-permit allowing international students whose courses have been moved to online classes, to be eligible for Postgraduate work permit.

Canada has an immigration target of inviting 3, 41,000 new immigrants in 2020. Moreover, considering the skilled shortage, low birth rate, and the shrinking workforce of Canada, it is unlikely that the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada will compromise with its immigration target despite the disruption caused by the recent Covid-19, pandemic. Despite the temporary travel restrictions imposed, the Canadian government continues to accept the new applications, process the existing ones, and issue the invitations to apply to the Candidates through its point-based online Express Entry immigration System as well as Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Although it is a tough time for the whole world in terms of health and the financial breakdown and all the borders are closed, the Canadian Immigration system is carrying forward its operations. It welcomes the new immigrants to the country with open arms, and COVID-19 does not seem to affect the Canadian Immigration Policy in the near future. So, it is, by all means, a great time to apply immigration to Canada this year. For the assistance, you may get in touch with Dream Destination Canada as the DDC team has an efficient record for helping numerous of people in immigrating to Canada under the guidance of our most trusted RCIC Mr. Paul Abraham.
