Owner/ Operator LMIA-Based Work Permit

If you are an owner or operator of your own business, you may apply for and advertisement exempt Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) which if approved will help you gain grounds for a work permit known as an Owner/Operator work permit.

A Canadian employer who would like to employ a foreign worker needs to go through the LMIA process through which the employer obtains authorization to bring a foreign worker to Canada.

An important requirement of the LMIA application process is to advertise the position in order to show appropriate effort to fill the job position using potential applicants from Canada.

Some applicants are exempt from this requirement, as is the case with the Owner/Operator LMIA.

The Owner/Operator LMIA is used for foreign businesspersons to establish or obtain/purchase a a business presence in Canada and manage the entity from Canada.
